When I first saw something about being 'metrosexual' on the little news bar on the side of hotmail_____ one day... I was very confused... when I read the article I didn't feel any more secure about it either. What I find interesting about the whole situation is that.... instead of just making a label to describe people who take actions that we understand as the stereotype-driven what-we-see-in-the-media typical gay man (metro) and try to make the world better by making it more open and free and everyone is whoever they want to be... what do we do... we make everything MORE confusing by plastering the word sexual on to the end. - If you like to dress up, you like to dress up... it's okay... it really is... you can do it... believe it or not you don't have to rely on the word metrosexuality to not feel so gay (if you're straight) or try and feel like you're less awkward (if you're gay and have a hard time expressing that or something)... take the risk to just say, this is what I like... don't just be like, I'm a metrosexual... if anything, you're just a metro kinda guy... what does sexual have anything to do with it... - True, some people may in fact be using this as a defense mechanism... and many people will still see the 'metro' community as gays in disguise or, who knows what else... but that is, in large part, because of the view we (straights, gays, and everyone else) are shown and experience through television... we try to make it better by adding Queer Eye or whatever... but, it doesn't help... because really, for what I know of the show, we're keeping ALL of the stereotypical views of gays and throwing a straight guy into it... and instead of it being like, well its okay to get advice, he's more groomed (because ALL the gays are groomed like that, right?! [bitter sarcasm])... what do we do, OMG IM NOT GAY, I'M A METRO!! THATS IT... AND ITS NOT JUST THAT I LIKE CLOTHES OR SMELLING GOOD TO GET ATTENTION... ITS A METRO...SEXUAL!! BECAUSE I NEVER THINK ABOUT ANYTHING LIKE THAT (trust me buddy, it crosses everyone's mind at least once... deal with it... read the kinsey reports from the 1950s... over 50 years ago... that one time you were curious about your best friends penis... believe it or not you weren't the only one...)... - I think that the whole metro thing is trying to make everything better and get rid of stereotypes between gays and straights and everyone else... but aren't we maintaining the stereotype that ALL gays (and i'm exaggerating here a little, but not much) are like this... I'm a metrosexual.. because I'm LIKE a gay guy... because thats how THEY are... but i'm still looking at your boobs, don't worry! - Bottom line... you are who you are... if you like going shopping for clothes, then do it...(side note: my best friend and I went out the other day and picked out clothes for each other... believe it or not we didn't start questioning our sexualities during or after it... imagine that)... if you want to smell attractive, and feel like you can arouse yourself and others of either sex for the attention you deserve for your glorious body by that wonderful smell that costs a little much... then just freaking do it, don't be like.. well... its because I'm a metrosexual. - Lame

TITLE: Something to ponder.
Metrosexuality is not very common, not noticably common. I have a metrosexual friend, he might be a little bisexual but mostly heterosexual and I believe he is. I don´t think metrosexuals are closet gays, they said the same thing about bisexuals and still do. Their just themselves, different, they might make things confusing for some people. But it also shows that stereotypes are bogus. To me a metrosexual is gay/straight/bi/pansexual/asexual/omnisexual and etc, but has some feminin tendecies. Gender differences are over-rated anyway.

Why don't metrosexuals just come out and call themselves gay? They might go for women but what man is going to get a woman if they have stereotypical gay tendencies and act all feminine? It's not exactly a turn-on in all aspects. I would love some responses to this just to hear how others feel about women being attracted to seemingly gay men. Hope to hear from you all! * If you're responding to my "article" please use the same title so I'm aware

TITLE: Metro Sexual?
I don't think that there is a thing such as metro. I see gay people every day, but never seen a metro. A was in a club one night and saw a guy and his girlfriend. He was attractive and I was attracted! I walk past him, noticed he is gay and started flirting a bit. Before ten that night he sent his girlfriend for drinks. He came to meet me. Later he asked my number. The next morning he phoned me to ask me for lunch. We were a couple for three years now. He admit that he pretended to be straight. He thought marrying would make him straight!!! So come on metro's: admit it, enjoy your life and live what you are!!! We gay men are just waiting for you handsome hunks!!!

Hey all, here is my perspective on it... I must say that as I have grown into my mid-20's I have had more and more 'metrosexual' tendencies. I seem to worry more about my appearance, want to be fashionable, even beautiful. I also checkout guys (for their hair style or what they are wearing), as well as looking at the girls. This sort of behavior sometimes drives my girlfriend carzy, and she always asks me if I'm going to 'turn gay'. I often wonder what it is too, because I am definitely straight. I even tried for a few days to imagine myself as a gay man, but it just isn't me. Now the weird thing is that I have this total urge to be around gay/metro men. I don't know why, but I am always impressed by their style and their manner. I am attracted to it, in some weird cosmic way. I love shows like Queer Eye, and often wish I had friends like the fab five. My ultimate dream is to dress and act like Rufus Wainwright, an outwardly gay musician. I guess now that the term metrosexual has been coined, I can breathe a little easier. I am not in denial, and I am not repressed. I feel good both being 'hetero' and 'metro'. Viva la difference!

TITLE: Seeing a Metro!
Ok... I read all the comments above because I recently started seeing a guy who my friends called a Metrosexual! I had no idea what that term ment but can now say I believe there are all types of metro's.. You have the guys that are still in the closet & you have the guys that are just looking after themselves.. Just because he waxes & has more skin care then me doesnt make him gay. Does it? Hahaha GOD I HOPE NOT!
